Karl Marx was a German philosopher, economist, sociologist, historian, journalist and revolutionary who developed the theory of Marxism. He is considered one of the most influential thinkers in human history. Born in 1818 to a wealthy family in Prussia, Marx studied philosophy at university before becoming a journalist and writing about political economy. He published his seminal work, The Communist Manifesto, in 1848 with Friedrich Engels, and later fled to Paris after a failed uprising in Germany. There he continued to develop his theories before fleeing again after Louis Napoleon’s coup d’état. Marx spent the rest of his life living in London until his death from tubercular meningitis in 1883.

How did Karl Marx die?

Karl Marx died on March 14, 1883, when he was 64, after succumbing to a bout of bronchitis.

Not owning any land when he died, he was buried in London’s Highgate Cemetery.
