Louis Farrakhan is a prominent African-American leader. He has been the head of the Nation of Islam since 1977 and also leads other religious groups such as The Millions More Movement. Born in New York City, he was raised by his mother and attended Catholic schools before being expelled from high school for disciplinary reasons. In 1954, he met Malcolm X at a Harlem speech and joined him on stage towards the end of his speech to call to Muslims in America: We want to tell you that it’s time for you to forget about trying out Christianity now … We have something else now. Shortly afterwards, he converted to Islam and became Minister Louis X.
