Joseph Heller, author of Catch-22, was born in Brooklyn, New York on May 1, 1923. Though he had a successful career as an author, Heller’s road to publication was a long and difficult one. He spent over ten years writing Catch-22 before it was finally published in 1961. The novel was an instant success and has since become a classic American novel.
