James Herriot was born in Scotland in 1916. He didn’t originally have his heart set on becoming a veterinarian; he originally wanted to be a top-notch writer. However, due to the outbreak of World War II, he was unable to attend college and pursue writing. So instead, he apprenticed under a local vet and the rest is history! For over 50 years, James Herriot provided veterinary care for animals in the Yorkshire Dales and became an internationally-renowned author. His books about life as a country vet continue to be enjoyed by audiences around the world. Though Herriot has since passed away, his legacy lives on through his beloved books and the many people whose lives he touched.
