Zelda fitzgerald was born in 1896, the daughter of an aristocratic Alabama family. She met her husband-to-be F. Scott Fitzgerald at a country club dance in 1917 and they married the following year. Zelda became a popular socialite during the 1920s, and was closely associated with the flapper generation. In later years she suffered from mental illness, which was often portrayed in her husband’s writing. Zelda died in 1948.
