Watchman Nee was born in 1903 in China, an era when the country suffered from poverty and war. He became a Christian as a young man and later went to Japan to continue his education. There he fell ill with tuberculosis, but recovered after prayer for healing. After finishing college he returned to China where he started preaching about Jesus Christ. He founded churches in Shanghai, Beijing, Wenzhou and other areas of China where Christianity had not been allowed before because it conflicted with the government’s communist ideology.
