Vaclav Havel was born in 1906. He attended a Czechoslovakian school and then went to the College of Architecture at Prague’s Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design. His studies were interrupted by World War II when his country was invaded by Nazi Germany. After the war he continued his studies at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design as well as working for various architectural firms in Prague. In 1946 he started teaching architecture classes. In 1951 Havel became Head of Department for Architectural Composition at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Charles University in Prague.
