Lucy Stone quotes thumbnail

Lucy Stone is a woman who made her mark on history as one of the first women to fight for equality. She was born in 1818, and died in 1893. From an early age, she knew that she wanted to be an advocate for women’s rights and give them more equal footing with men. She went on to do so by refusing to acknowledge any man’s authority over her – including her own father’s! Her most famous quote was I will not obey my father anymore than I would obey anybody else. Lucy fought for suffrage, even though it wasn’t popular at the time and often resulted in violence against Lucy herself.
