Joan Jett is a rock icon. She was born on September 22, 1958 in Philadelphia to the family of James and Helen Jett. Her father taught her how to play guitar and drums. In 1975 she formed The Runaways with Sandy West who played drums, Lita Ford who played lead guitar, Jackie Fox who played bass, Vicki Blue who played keyboards, and Cherie Currie as their lead singer. They were one of the first all-female bands around at that time which had started out as an idea from Joan herself after seeing other all-male bands like Led Zeppelin and The Rolling Stones perform onstage.
