Her humorous essays on the American family life, published in newspapers and books, were popular during the late 1960s to early 1990s. She was best known for her I Want to Go Home column that she wrote when she became a stay-at-home mom after the birth of her youngest child in 1972. Erma Bombeck’s writing career began as a writer at WKRP in Cincinnati, Ohio where she contributed material for commercials. From there, she went on to publish many articles with more than 50 being published nationally from 1965 to 1973 before quitting journalism all together in order to focus on her family.
