Atal Bihari Vajpayee is a statesman and the 10th Prime Minister of India. He was born on 25 December 1924 in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh to Krishna Devi and Jawaar Lal; his family belongs to Uttarakhand’s Brahmin community.
Vajpayee was one of the most prominent leaders of Indian politics who served as an important member in Indira Gandhi’s cabinet during her emergency rule from 1975-1977. He has been described by many as one of modern India’s foremost nationalists. On 18 April 2009, he became the first ever non-Congress politician to deliver an address before joint session at United States Capitol building.
